Some Kinda Wonderful was formed after Derek was captivated by Noel’s performance of just one Stevie Wonder composition whilst they were performing together. It took Derek some time to persuade Noel that a whole night of Stevie Wonder’s music would be possible as Noel considered Stevie’s own performances to be sacred; in his own words “only a fool would take on the challenge!” but he eventually agreed to tackle this amazing music.

Derek set about transcribing and arranging the music for the show seeking to mix some of the more obscure gems among the classics that people have grown to love over Stevie’s continuing career.

From the very start, this was never to be a tribute act; the original versions would not be replicated note for note, the band would be given the freedom to improvise, and the arrangements would mix the studio versions with more recent live renditions by Wonder’s touring band.

The band features four world-class performers with extensive pedigrees and they have all contributed to creating this unique show.

From the show’s first live performance, the demand was huge and the band continues to perform at jazz clubs, festivals and theatres all over the UK.
